The audience of a film can differ according to the genre of the film or the age rating it is given. Thriller films are targeted at a very wide audience. Like all genres, there are sub-genres which can tell you in more detail of who the target audience are.

| The Inbetweeners Movie is aimed at males aged 15 to approximately 25 (mid-20s). The genre for the film is comedy and as the main characters are male, we can assume the film is aimed at males. |

| The Stepfather is classed as a thriller film. It is aimed at teenagers and adults from roughly the age of 15 to about 25, late 20s. The film is aimed at mainly men as it is a thriller, a genre which appeals to a majority of males rather than females. |
