Genre and sub-genre

GenreA category of artistic composition, in this case film, characterised by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.

Sub-genre - Two genres intertwined e.g. RomCom (Romance Comedy) Sub-genre makes watching a film that little bit more entertaining and is targeted at a wider audience. For example RomComs are targeted at women through it's romantic story line but has a twist of comedy to attract men audiences as well.

Personally Memento (2000) inspired me the most as I enjoy Psychological Thrillers that grip the audience and challenge their mind state. It engages the audience on an immense scale which keeps them wanting and questioning more about the film. I would particularly like to give the audience something to think about whilst watching an opening to a film as I wouldn't want to give the whole film away in a matter of two to three minutes which I feel spoils the film.

As you can see above we have a character holding a photo. We don't know who's holding the photo, who's in it or who's taken it. So already the audience is questioning their thoughts as they watch.

End of Opening Scene
It isn't until we reach more or so the end of the opening where a man has taken a picture of a man he has shot in the head but we see this backwards. Then we finally find our selves in a hotel room where he's questioning himself which by this point we know just as little as he does which is quite empathetic for the audience.
