Genre and sub-genre

A genre is a loose set of criteria for a category of composition. For example, films can be put into several different genres like thrillers, horrors, romance and many more. Another example would be music which can be put into categories such as R&B, pop, jazz and more. These are put into groups to attract people of a specified target audience.

Sub-genres are like more than one genres together. For example, films can be catgorised in the romance genre, where other films can be put into the comedy genre. But when a film has two of these genres, they label it as a 'rom-com'.

My favourite genre of film has to be either thriller or horror. These types of films keep the audience holding on to the edge of their seats! They build excitement as well as challenge your mind. Over the holidays I watched a number of films mainly based around the horror-thriller genre. The films included Pan's Labyrinth, House of Wax and The Wrong Turn Franchise. The target audience for these films I believe are for both males and females 18+. I believe boys would rather watch thrillers whereas girls, horror films.
